SCIATIC LEG PAIN RELIEF WITH CHIROPRACTIC CARE:
PATIENT EXPECTATION, OUTCOME, SATISFACTION
Anyone who has
suffered with Oxford lumbar radiculopathy (aka leg pain, sciatica)
knows its life-disrupting pain, wants relief, and has expectations that
influence ultimate treatment outcomes and satisfaction. Having
“standardized chiropractic care package” for lumbar radiculopathy pain relief
that patients with leg pain could turn to without confusion over options for
care sounds like a good plan! They’ve tried it in Denmark to enhanced
clinical outcomes, meet patient expectations, and attain patient
satisfaction with care. It's
succeeded in that patients felt they were carefully and thoroughly examined,
referred for MRI and/or to other health professionals as necessary, given advice and
information about their condition, and told clearly what to expect. (1) At Satterwhite Chiropractic, we strive to go
over all of these with you and align our mutual
expectations for your best clinical outcome. Certainly, relief
expectations differ from patient to patient. For example, expectations
of athletic patients were reported to be
complete pain relief from sports chiropractors. They also reported
satisfaction with care and suggested better
interprofessional and interpersonal communication. (2) Patients with low
back-related leg pain, sciatica, were inclined to desire
relief that comes from working together with their care-giver chiropractor based on a bond of trust and
attentiveness to patients' needs, values, and preferences. (3) Chiropractors like yours at
Satterwhite Chiropractic who utilized the Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain
Management create that bond beginning with a
thorough examination that results in a diagnosis
and relieving treatment plan. Whether the patient has sciatica
due to an L4L5 disc extrusion with spondylolytic spondylolisthesis (relief in 9
visits in 4 weeks) (4) or a pregnant patient with low back and right leg pain
(relief in 8 visits) (5) or other such combination of symptoms, gentle,
specific spinal manipulation with Cox® Technic has produced Oxford
leg pain relief in chiropractic clinics like Satterwhite Chiropractic. These kinds
of clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction levels are the goals
with our chiropractic treatment plan!
Oxford CHIROPRACTIC TIP OF THE MONTH:
Non-Drug Pain Control Alternatives
[[Rather than prescribing opioids, healthcare providers are more
often prescribing anticonvulsants (gabapentin [Neurontin], topiramate
[Topamax], pregabalin [Lyrica]) |Instead of opioid prescriptions, prescriptions
for]] anticonvulsants (gabapentin [Neurontin], topiramate [Topamax], pregabalin
[Lyrica]) are on the rise]27] for low back pain with or without radiculopathy.
A recent meta-analysis of randomized control trials concluded
that there is good evidence that these drugs are not effective for
these conditions and are linked to increased risk
of adverse side-effects. (6) In a systematic review of published findings,
anticonvulsants were reported to not reduce pain or disability
for low back pain and lumbar radiculopathy and to raise
the risk of adverse effects. (7) There are some more natural options
for pain relief that may be more effective without adverse
side-effects: turmeric, Devil’s Claw, ginger root, Boswellia serrata,
quercetin, chondroitin sulfate, white willow bark, curcumin, etc. (8-12) Of
turmeric, one recent systematic review stated that “the
golden spice has enormous health and medicinal benefits for humans”. (13) Let’s see how these may enhance your pain relief
effort.
